India’s IRCTC is one of the most heavily used websites in the world,in fact I would say it has traffic much more than what Amazon handles. It is also one of the busiest sites which goes down frequently due to load causing inconveniences to thousands and thousands of people in India who rely on railways for transport.
Is their any quick fix for this ? Will adequate infrastructure reduce the burden of the site ? Do you believe Performance testing or Load Testing can resolve issues which IRCTC faces ? I think they cannot at for now or in my life time, some failures are just too chronic to be resolved by the testing in spite of testing often. Its just that business model of the IRCTC has lot many customers and it has total monopoly in the area where it operates. In addition to this , its bureaucratic organization.Customers just don’t any other choice other than going to IRCTC site. But again we should also need keep in mind that its only Indian Railways which can connect us to the most remote and hardest part of the India.Exactly the reasons why some sites in spite of having poor performance are stars in their line of business.Deep Expertise/Customer loyalty/Care/Empathy for customers are some of the key things which makes IRCTC website a star performer.
Is there a reference to support your claim that IRCTC handles more traffic than Amazon does?
ReplyDeleteKumar,
DeleteNo I dont have it,but think it this way, how many competitors amazon has and places it serves and compare that with IRCTC and size of the market it serves.
